Background: Koru cut out 1 and 2 are carved in New Zealand jade and take the ethno-glasses concept further by being in the three dimensional realisation of Gordon Walters style koru.
As they are unable to be seen through they act as blinkers rather than vision enhancers. To my knowledge this is the first rendering of this type of koru in the traditional material of the Maori and thus continues the cultural dialogue of the new tradition. The new tradition is my term for the huge body of New Zealand contemporary artwork that fuse together aspects of the Maori and Pakeha cultures.
